I don't know if you've ever seen pictures of the damage mountaintop mining does, but it is a terrible, terrible scar on what was once a beautiful mountain range. I'll try to find some pictures. Essentially, mountaintop mining involves the cutting off the top of a mountain and pushing all the debris down the sides to fill the valleys -- including in lots of cases, streams.
