I'm not sure what to make of this new effort to hunt down Bin Laden. Why did it take this long to have a "new effort"? Doesn't that imply that we were slacking a bit in looking for him before? I mean, I suppose we've been distracted in Iraq and all that, right? Well, it seems to me that this is another instance of reactionary government - what I mean by that is it looks like the administration just plows forward with policies without much foresight of consequences, and then just veers course when things start to go badly politically. e.g. we can't get the U.N. in fast enough now to determine the viability of elections, when before it was not even possible that the UN would have a leading role in the rebuilding of Iraq. Same with Afghanistan - jobs are down, the administration has looked bad in recent weeks with the National Guard flap, the wishy-washy non-backing of the jobs report - all while people realize we still havent caught Osama. So what to do? Put in a "new effort" to catsh OBL while stirring up the hornets nest on gay marriage. Ah, blatant politics at its best.
