It amazes me that the Republicans are pushing the gay marriage amendment in the face of so many other problems. This is clearly political - trying to raise a wedge issue in an election year where the Bushies have nothing to run on. Even the Vice President's wife, Lynne Cheney, is opposed to this amendment. Anyone with an ounce of respect for equal rights and freedom in this country should not be in favor of such an amendment. Our constitution is a guarantee of freedoms -- it is a limit on government and an outline of governmental powers. It is NOT meant to be a restriction on rights that everyone has. Even putting this to a vote exposes many of the GOP leaders for the divisive, homophobic, fear-pushing group that they are.
