This is an excellent article by Conason from Salon. While I disagree with some of McCain's policies, he has continually showed an independence from party that both the left and the right are sorely lacking. So for McCainto stand up against Kerry in the manner he's doing -- in a commercial for Bush implying that he's rejected Kerry's VP offer (nonexistent, btw) to support Bush. Conason rightly points out that it is somewhat tragic that McCain is putting himself into the service of those who excoriated him and his family during the 2000 primaries. Sad day indeed.
