Sham Debates

These highly orchestrated, adfomercial debates are a sham. What about the idea of forcing debates in a specific formats with no negotiated rules? If you take $75 million in public funding, you agree to a debate. Thank goodness the networks (finally) stood up for something and aren't agreeing to the rules in this memorandum (such as not showing candidate reaction, not showing audience reaction, etc.)

I can't think of a better reason for publicly funded campaigns. What a great way to take money out of politics - no campaign donations, no PACs, no 527s.... Except the wee problem of the 1st amendment. Maybe you can implement public financing with strict disclosure requirements regarding political ads. *sigh*. At least I like the idea of forcing debates without any restrictions by the candidates....
